Level 2 Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles

Destinations:

Successful completion of the Level 2 course can lead to progression onto a full Apprenticeship if the candidate has a full time work placement and then onto a Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles.

Overview of the course:

This course is for Candidates wanting to further develop the key practical skills and knowledge relating to motor vehicle systems. The qualification covers a variety of automotive related areas. The course is split 50/50 over both classroom based theory lessons and workshop based practical activities.

Entry requirements:

The minimum requirements for the Level 2 course are prior completion of a Level 1 Motor Vehicle Qualification and Level 1 Functional Skills, or A-C Qualifications in Maths and English.

Topics:

The Certificate is made up of units which include: vehicle engine systems and components, vehicle electrical systems and components, transmission systems and components, vehicle chassis systems and components, health and safety and working relationships.

How is the course assessed?:

The course is Portfolio based and is assessed by observation of practical tasks carried to a standard proving competence, and by unit based knowledge questions at the end of each unit. There are two units, units 151 and 155 that are assessed by means of on-line exams.

Progression options:

Once the Level 2 course has been completed and the candidate has a full time work placement they can move onto the Level 2 apprenticeship and then the Level 3 Diploma/Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles.

Fees: 

If you're a full time student under the age of 19 you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

If you are aged 19-23 years old you may be required to pay fees for your course, however if you do not already have a level 1 or 2 qualification, or you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group, your fees may be paid by the Government.

If you are aged 24 or over you may be required to pay fees for your course, however if you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group, your fees may be paid by the Government.
