Level 2 Diploma in Pipework Systems Mechanical Engineering Technology

This course provides the opportunity to develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to become a plumber.

Entry requirements

At least four GCSEs at grade C or above are required to enrol on to the Level 2 Diploma.

What areas are covered by the course?

This qualification comprises of three common mandatory units:

  • Engineering environment awareness
  • Engineering techniques
  • Engineering principles


The course then goes on to cover the following:

  • Non-fusion thermal joining techniques
  • Pipework fixing
  • Bending and jointing methods
  • Pipework systems

How is the course taught?

This course is delivered entirely at The Technical Academy using classrooms and workshop facilities. Students will participate in lectures, practical work, tutorials, private study periods, projects and assignments.

How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed through written and practical assignments.

Length of course

One year.

Progression/Career opportunities

Following successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma students can progress on to a range of Level 2 and 3 courses or an Apprenticeship. These can lead to employment as a pipework systems engineer or plumber.
