Title | The Technical Academy - East Durham College

Frequently Asked Questions

When is enrolment?

For full-time students, enrolment is normally in September, with some additional January starts. We will write to everyone who has applied with full details of the enrolment procedure including the exact date and time when you should attend

Can I apply for any course?

Yes, provided you meet the entry requirements. For details, please check the courses section. You can apply throughout the year, head to the apply online page for details.

What will my interview be like?

Don't worry - your interview is not an exam or a personality test! We use it to get to know you and help you choose the right course to suit your interests and abilities. We will write to you to let you know the date and time of your interview.

At the interview we will make you an offer of a place, if we can. There are usually conditions attached - passing GCSEs, for example, or Level 1 Maths.

What if I change my mind about the course I’d like to take?

If you change your mind, or don't meet the entry requirements, don't panic! Every student is seen again at enrolment and we will try to find something which is right for you.

Will I have to pay?

There are no course fees if you are:
a) under 19 years of age on the 31st of August before the start of your course and
b) a 'home student' - which means that you have been resident in Britain or the European Union for three years prior to your course starting.

If you are over 19 you may need to pay for your course. For advice based on your personal circumstances, please call Student Services on 0191 518 8222.

If I do have to pay, can I get help with the costs?

East Durham College has its own Learner Support Fund which is there to help students with the costs of staying on in further education - things like travel, books and equipment and course-related trips.

I need help with childcare to allow me to do a course - what can I do?

We make it as easy as possible for you to attend college. We could offer you free childcare places, providing you meet specific criteria. We could also pay registered nurseries or childminders on your behalf.

If you have any more questions or would like further advice please call Student Services on 0191 518 8222.
